I chose Education because I wanted my everyday work to be a form of service. I changed my major to English Education as a Sophomore, and I have not been disappointed since I made that change.
My most significant community service experience was the summer that I spent interning for the Meridian Freedom Project. There, I gained the confidence to teach, and I saw all of the immense benefits of my work-- the experience confirmed that this exactly the kind of work that I should be doing.
As a Black educator, my primary focus is on the Black community. I believe that education, through critical thinking and analysis, should serve as a tool for change and social action for us. I think this will prove to be especially important in the Delta.
I decided to start this blog as a tool for self-reflection, something that I find beneficial in my own personal life. I hope to look back and see some successes, some failures and most importantly, lots and lots of growth.
